Puncak Jaya, Carstensz Pyramid
Puncak Jaya, sometimes called Mount Carstensz or the Carstensz Pyramid, is the highest mountain on the island of New Guinea, on the Australia-New Guinea continent and in Oceania. It is the highest point between the Himalayas and the Andes and the highest island peak in the world. The peak is located in what is variously called the Sudirman Range or the Dugunduguoo, in the western central highlands of Papua, the Indonesian western half of the island, and is the highest peak in the country.
Carstensz Pyramid Trekking Expedition
Day 01 - Default meeting service in Manado, North Sulawesi
Day 02 - Early morning flight to Biak Island in Papua
Day 03 - 1 hour flight to Nabire and stay one night there
Day 04 - 55 minutes flight to Sugapa/Bilogai (2300 m)
Upon arrival in Sugapa small airport, you will be welcome with interesting traditional Papua dance per fomed by locals from Moni Tribe (known to be the friendliest tribe in Papua). Being 2300 m above sea level, Sugapa becomes a perfect place for acclimatiziation. Stay 1 night in Sugapa.
Day 05 - Trekking to Mindou Village
The trekking to Mindou village from Sugapa would take about 8 to 9 hours through tropical rain forest where the famous birds of paradise are commonly spotted on the way. A special welcome feast of traditional 'hot stone cooking' will be performed by the friendly people of Mindow village.
Day 06 - 08 - Trekking days to Carstensz Basecamp.
The trekking to the basecamp would take about 7 to 8 hours per day.
Day 09 - Acclimatization Day and walking arround Basecamp
Day 10 - 11 - Summit Days
Day 12 - 15 - Trekking back to Sugapa/Bilogai
Day 16 - Fly to Nabire
Day 17 - Nabire - Biak - Manado flights
Day 18 - Optional Tour or diving activities arround Manado
